- This supplement is one of the very few things that have managed to get through my property class this semester. Although my professor is incredible, the Short and Happy Guide puts everything into bright line format. It really helps clear up confusing topics and the acronyms Franzese comes up with really do aid in memorizing elements. My only complaints are that Franzese only discusses the validating life approach to Rules Against Perpetuities. I found the Create, Kill, and Count method much easier and it would have been nice for her to discuss that method for RAP as well. Additionally, the binding on the book is terrible. The end portion of my book, starting with the Land Transactions section, has started to come unglued from the cover of the book. Neither of these complaints are truly worth docking any stars from this product, though. If you are taking property, I cannot recommend this supplement enough!
- I virtually never review things, but this book literally saved me in property. Nothing about the class made any sense so I bought the Short and Happy Guide and taught it to myself. When taking the exam I kept remembering the various mnemonic devices she created and while I don't know my grade yet, I do know that it would have been substantially worse without this book. Also if you have Barbri access, she apparently has lectures on there for free.
If anyone ever meets this amazing woman, please send her my (and my study group's) gratitude. - Wow! Just Wow! This book has made property simple for me, and easy to remember. It turned a subject that my professor said was the hardest to grasp in law school easy.
Thank you so much Paula!!! You are a Godsend! - Super helpful in understanding (almost) all aspects of property for school. Franzese is a great teacher, and her lectures are fun and easy to understand. I just feel that some of the areas of the book could have given a little more information.
- Wish I would have bought it sooner! Quick read! You can easily finish the book in a couple of hours if you're a quick reader. The acronyms are helpful and honestly, you do feel this sense of happiness knowing you understand! I'd recommend looking up youtube videos to help with any gaps in understanding as well. I didn't have this when our class went over future interests and I sorely wish I did. Happy reading! Just buy it!
- Its a great tool! This clarified and cemented the big concepts of property as well as the elements. Font is nice and big. The pages aren't cramped with a lot of information. There are charts as well! Small for travel too.
- Property is seriously complicated. This book does an excellent job of simplifying and clarifying a complex topic, making sense of things I spent all semester trying to figure out. This isn't a substitute for the cases and assigned reading, but it is an awesome study aid and has some great memory tricks to help you prepare for your final exam.

- Clive Thompson’s new behind the screen look at the tribe of coders is by no means perfect. A journalist by profession, Thompson’s chapters somewhat read like a series of loosely connected articles for the New York Times magazine. But these glances at different aspects of the computer programming world do incisively capture the culture for both good and ill.
Written primarily for those who are not members of the tribe, as a data scientist I cannot say I learned much by reading it. But its depiction of the hyper-masculine, intellectually preoccupied, socially inept world of programming did resonate. Of course, Thompson is not the first writer to depict this world. Nor is he the first to opine that the immense amount of harm caused by these new technologies is the result of the blindnesses of this monoculture. But updating readers on the cultural changes in computing from the 1950s to the 1990s to 2019 is important for everyone who has to live in the partially online modern world.
Thompson also makes a concerted argument that the lack of women and minorities in computers is the result of cultural bias and not in any sense genetic. Though largely relying on anecdotal evidence the argument grows increasingly persuasive as the book advances. I wish Thompson had relied more on data and less on personal testimony. Given, however, that this is an issue with significant cultural and financial implications, it’s encouraging to see this position well-articulated.
I ended up thinking after reading it through that the book is a light and mostly pleasant way for those not in coding to understand something of this ever growing part of modernity. Not a must-read but something that non-coders will both benefit from and enjoy. - <em>Coders</em> is a sign of its times instead of comprehensively covering the topic of code, how it works, and where it comes from, Thompson does some of that, which is to be commended, and a lot of fomenting discord through relentless stereotypes about race and sex. He seems to believe women and some people, based on the color of their skin, cannot code as some other groups can, and that implication is disconcerting, pervasive, and annoying in his book.
But Thompson cannot help himself; he is a creature of the media and he doesn't realize the bogosity of the water in which he swims. Instead of focusing on the product and how it is made, he focuses on the race and gender of the people making it. Software can be written by anyone; that is a topic to be celebrated. Thompson repeatedly misses the forest for the trees of race and gender.
There is a great book stashed inside this performatively "woke" book. Thompson keeps showing us glimpses of that great book, then hiding the great book away so he can repeat bland media formulas about how women and minorities are hurt most. News at 11. If this book is read in the far future, it will be seen as yet another example of the media class's obsessions in this age; instead of focusing on technology and how to build the future, Thompson focuses on media-enabled squabbles. We know that you've replaced church with the church of "social justice;" we don't need evangelizing for it in everything you do.
He claims, "Feminism and diversity are, indeed, sore points in the industry" (22). No, they are not; they are sore points in the grievance studies and media industries. Those are studies bent on complaining; tech is bent on building the future. He goes on to claim that "The racial makeup [of most tech cos] is not more diverse," then goes on to admit that Asians are prevalent in tech. Do they not count as diversity? Why does Thompson systematically exclude Asians? His own racial insensitivity shows here; performative wokeness shades back into the racism it claims to oppose. Thompson says early hackers "admired great code even if it came from someone with no rank at all" (37)—isn't that meritocracy?
Thompson asks, "What makes programming so often inhospitable for women?" He assumes it is, ignoring the vast number of successful women in the field. Why not focus harder on what makes coders, rather than the race or sex of the coders? Because that wouldn't reify Thompson's world view. We get it, Clive you are a moral hero while the rest of us are mere struggling pygmies. Maybe one day we can be as good as you demonstrate yourself to be in this book. - This is a good history of programming and programmers. - This book changed my life. I know you've heard that said about a lot of books and I'm sure there are other fine books out there. But this one,You Can Heal Your Life, by Louise Hay, is the motherbook from which all others evolved. I was introduced to it in 1990, 26 years ago, when I was 42. At the time I was reeling from a pessimistic cancer diagnosis, the end of my marriage, and the development of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I'm almost 69 and this is the book that showed me how to live with and through all that and more. I've given away at least a hundred of these books and this one went to my new friend, Tina, who is excited about the changes in her life she has already made. I can't recommend it highly enough.
- This was one of the hardest books I've ever read. This little book took me forever to finish. Not that the writing was hard to digest. It was the work and activities and reflections to make the corrections to bring healing. Which is all still a work in progress. Hey, I've lived 47 years of being broken so I can't expect to heal all that hurt instantly, but this gave me a great starting point and great tools to begin the work.
It actually IS working too. I'm choosing to respond to situations differently, and to even look at them differently.
My favorite example to tell people from the principles I learned in this book is being on a plane for over 3 hours with a crying baby. No, not crying. Wailing at the top of his or her lungs. As you can imagine, EVERYONE, including myself, was irritated. Some more openly so than others. But I came to a part in this book that talked about giving love to difficult people and situations and giving what you want to receive.
So I started sending healing, loving thoughts to that poor baby and the mom. Because I knew she did NOT want to be THAT person, right? The one with the crying, inconsolable child. So I closed my eyes and just sent loving white, calming light to both of them. And prayers for comfort and calm.
Guess what happened? The baby stopped crying. Did my thoughts do it? I'm sure what actually happened was the poor kid tuckered him/herself out from all that bawling, BUT...it erased my irritation and made me feel better. It felt good to give, even anonymously, like that. Much better to put positive energy into the world rather than feeding the negative.
This book will be one I'll have to reread and revisit from time to time. And the work/exercises are still ongoing. Some I haven't had the courage to try yet. But I'm glad a yoga teacher mentioned this book in passing. It was an answer to an unspoken prayer to be led to a path of healing. I love it. I just wish Louise was still around for me to tell her I'm among her legions of fans now. - I bought this book on a recommendation of a friend, thinking I would like to create a more positive attitude from within myself. But, after perusing the contents, and as a nurse, I find this book to be completely without scientific merit, shaming, preposterous, and possibly even dangerous and damaging to someone naive enough to take it as fact. For example, author states that the reason for senility in the elderly is "Returning to the so-called safety of childhood. Demanding care and attention. A form of control of those around you. Escapism." And Alzheimer's is caused by "A refusal to deal with the world as it is. Hopelessness and helplessness. Anger.". A diagnosis of either of these problems is devastating both to the individual and to their families. But blaming the individual for a problem most people wouldn't wish on their worse enemy in such a way not only places a big steaming pile of guilt on the patient, it could also create a family dynamic that is non-supportive and possibly even dangerous. Abuse of the elderly with such diseases is a very real problem in some families. Imagine if caretakers truly believed the only reason Mom has senility or Alzheimer's is because of the above reasons.
Or, suppose you are diagnosed with cancer. Well that's because of "Deep hurt. Longstanding resentment. Deep secret or grief eating away at the self. Carrying hatreds. "What's the use?"". I find that analysis to be deeply offensive - - not only to cancer patients and cancer survivors but to their families and caretakers and support systems. How dare she! This book is a complete load of crap. Also - interesting note I was able to return it for a full refund it for a full refund with shipping paid for by labeling it as "defective". Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for positivity and life reform. - I was looking forward to this book because I believe in the holistic mind-body connection. However, this book is a bunch of made-up nonsense that encourages people to take responsibility for any harmful life experience and assigns mythical causes to every disease or physical symptom. I find this incredibly damaging and as a therapist and holistic practitioner I would NEVER recommend it to a client. Instead I recommend the works of either Dr. Bessel Van der Kolk or Dr. Carolyn Leaf.
- This book gave me the key to release all things negative. It took me six months. For years or decades I have struggled with depression. Every ten to twelve years it haunted me again and again - the past. I cannot stress too much that this small book contains the key 'I am willing to release ...". It sounds so easy and it is so easy. This key in conjunction with the 'Power of Now' from Eckart Tolle (books, youtube) was the way for me out of this vicious circle.
I hope this review helps others to stumble upon it - it is so worth it. Everybody who is looking for the way out of these vicious circles knows what I am talking about. This finally worked for me.
I am so thankful that Louise Hay brought it into the world. - This is my Bible! I sent this to a friend who was terribly depressed...I have no Idea if this helped her(I think because she is NOT a Positive thinker)...but it helps me! And has helped me since 1980! I love this book...Louise Hay is right about so many things...This is a must have in our home...I hope it will be in yours! A+++++
